The nine-month long ordeal of a Polokwane resident who was charged with murdering his wife finally ended in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last Thursday when the court dismissed the case.

The murder case stemmed from the death of Mr Stephen Watkin’s wife, Rahab who accidently shot herself dead while she and her husband were travelling in their vehicle near the corner of Voortrekker and Suid streets in January.

Following an inquest, Mr Watkins was charged with murder. According to information from a close fa-mily member, Watkins also lost his first wife in a shooting incident.

Watkins is a former member of the police, the family member said. “I feel that this poor man has been a victim of the system, which does not always work as it should.” Watkins was unavailable for comment. - Karen Venter
