The Limpopo Informant, founded in January 2005, is aimed at all the people of Polokwane and surrounding areas. Management and majority ownership was taken over in September 2005 by Hannes & Marietjie Cilliers, previous co-owners of the Northern Review, a highly successful and much respected community newspaper which under their management had also won numerous awards such as the coveted Sanlam Award for Best Country newspaper on more than one occasion. It was only after careful and comprehensive market research that a definite need was established for a “back to basics” Community Newspaper for Polokwane – a paper that is reader- and community friendly in terms of news and contents, on condition that we make it the best read community paper in Polokwane over as short a time span as possible. Trust by the business community in the experience of the people now involved at the Limpopo Informant is what the phenomenal success of this publication is based on. The recent support received and growth experienced on circulation as well as advertising, has confirmed our belief in the feasibility of our goal namely, not to be the biggest, but simply the best. Limpopo Informant appears on Wednesdays, currently prints 6000 and sells for R 3.00 through leading news agencies, cafes and street vendors in Polokwane. It is also distributed in Lebowakgomo, Mankweng, Seshego, Vivo, Mogwadi (Dendron) and Alldays, the towns that form the main agricultural spine in the Limpopo Province with Polokwane as capital. We do not believe in free distribution in our area and have been members of the ABC for the past two years.Editorial policy is based on a 70% English preference, balanced political reporting as well as emphasis on schools, local sport and economic development. Our updated ABC figure presently stands on 3 990 copies sold per week, with a best individual weekly sales figure of 5341. The Limpopo Informant achieved second place overall in the category Best Small Town Newspaper at the 2008 Sanlam Awards in Durban, as well as a second place in Best Front Page category. The Limpopo Informant, has proven to be one of the best community newspapers in South Africa, and is situated in one of the biggest economical growth points in South Africa.
Our experience and knowledge of our industry, our readers and our city gained over 20 years in Polokwane gives us the edge. |
