Burst pipe leads to flooded cars

This car is stuck in the water at the under roof car parking of Old Mutual. A burst water pipe in Biccard Street caused the parking to flood on Friday. Several vehicles were damaged during this incident.

A burst water pipe caused havoc on Friday morning when it flooded the under roof parking garage at the Old Mutual building in Hans van Rensburg Street.
Car owners attempted to evacuate their vehicles from the knee-deep water and while some were successful, others like Mr Adolf Rakoma, senior advisor from Old Mutual, could just stare at the damage to his luxury German car.

The pipe also caused damage to the Raging Bull restaurant in Biccard Street.
The pipe burst apparently happened at the building site of the ANC building opposite Raging Bull.
The aftermath of the flood did not end there. On Monday employees of Old Mutual, Mutual and Federal and the department of public works in Limpopo had to evacuate the building because the water affected the electricity supply in the whole building.
Polokwane Municipality spokesperson Mr Phuti Lekganyane said the electricity will be switched on when it was safe to do so. Technicians are on stand-by to restore the supply when it is possible to do so.
