Lim tops corruption lists PDF Print E-mail

Limpopo has been confirmed by the Auditor-General, Mr Terence Nombembe, as the most corrupt province thanks to crooked government tenders. Reportedly Limpopo tops other provinces with R270 million worth of corrupt activities, involving police and government officials from other departments.

However, Nombembe said this reflects that corruption has been reported. But Limpopo Premier, Mr Cassel Mathale, is angry and has ordered contractors and developers to finish their projects or they will be blacklisted.

Mathale expressed his concern about the incompetence of the contactors and developers who are hampering service delivery. He also warned that Limpopo government will not tolerate such behaviour as it tarnishes the image of the province.

Last week, Public Works MEC, Mr Phandelani Ramagoma, said: “We are going to offload incompetent developers. We need movers and shakers to provide service delivery to the community. It’s a serious crime for the developers not to complete their project and not to pay their employees. We are going to blacklist them.”

Spokesperson for Limpopo provincial government, Mr Mogale Nchabeleng, said: “Our attitude as provincial government is zero tolerance to corruption. We will tighten up all internal systems, integrity, risk management, supply management, contract management and other related financial systems to ensure that we are equal to the task of combating corruption successfully.” - Mpho Dube
